| Review: Enough Said is just amazing. Its plot is simple: a middle-aged woman (Julia Louis Dreyfus-) falls in love with a divorced middle-aged man (James Gandolfini). But in the course of true love never runs smoothly when the woman is also friends with one of the ex-wife. This eventually causes problems. Within this simple plot, director Nicole Holofcener achieves two quite remarkable central performances. Dreyfus does not want to fall in love, but finds himself inexorably drawn to Gandolfinis shy but bear-like personality. Physical setting, has all the basic assurance about himself and his relationships with two women in his life, his former wife and his daughter (Eve Hewson). Photos in the middle of suburban sprawl of California, Holofcener explores cracks basic life behind closed doors and immaculately manicured gardens. While the plot may seem familiar, performances redeem the film, which is really bitter-sweet and engaging. This Gandolfinis was last film before his untimely death, it stands as a fitting epitaph for a wonderful actor. |
